HOW TO USE GUIDE BY SKIN CONCERN

by Nicci Collier

Tailor-made skincare – with a twist

Conventional skincare products tend to be divided into ranges according to various ‘skin types’: oily, combination, dry… But Skin Creamery products work a little differently. It’s not that we’ve taken a ‘one size fits all’ approach or that we’ve failed to recognise the individual needs of your uniquely beautiful and very precious skin. Rather, we believe that every person’s skin experiences a variety of different skin conditions throughout its life cycle.

A younger, oily skin may become dry later in life, changing over time as a result of many different factors. These influences may be internal factors within the body (including diet, hormones, stress levels, stage of life or exercise regimes) or external environmental factors (such as humidity levels or sun exposure).

We believe that getting back to basics is key to a healthy skin and that – particularly when it comes to skincare – less is definitely more. We use high quality, certified organic ingredients and all our products are cruelty free. But best of all, our products are formulated to be used on any skin type, no matter the stage of its life cycle. In alternating the products used and frequency of use, the Skin Creamery range treats and corrects all skin conditions. So how to understand which products to use and when, for your unique needs?

Follow this guide to get the most out of our beautiful products for your specific skin condition. Generally all Skin Creamery products are excellent for sensitive skin.

Oily Skin With Occasional Breakouts (combination skin)

Dry or Dehydrated Skin

Reactive Skin

Open or Clogged Pores

OILY SKIN WITH OCCASIONAL BREAKOUTS

Commonly referred to as combination skin. Part oily, part dry. Most common skin type. Refer to this regime if unsure.

Morning

*Oil-Milk Cleanser

Start your day with this gentle and effective cleanser. It contains no soap or alcohol and therefore will not strip your skin of its natural oils but will rather gently balance and normalise the skin’s natural oil secretion.

*Skin Tonic

Follow cleansing with this toning product which contains essential nutrients necessary for healthy skin. It’s made from a base of rosewater, which helps to balance the skin’s PH levels and has a toning effect. The layer of baobab oil hydrates your skin and adds a protective layer to prevent moisture loss. This should be all that your skin requires as a moisturiser.

Evening

*Oil-Milk Cleanser

The Oil-Milk Cleanser can be used to remove makeup easily and can be used straight over the eye area to remove mascara.

*Facial Hydrating Oil or the Everyday Cream

Choose between the Facial Hydrating Oil and Everyday Cream, depending on your preference or individual skin condition. Despite what you may be inclined to think, an oily skin does need moisture and hydration. This step will give you a nourishing nightly treatment which will moisturise without being overly oily. The result will be a hydrated glow of radiant skin when you awake.

Weekly

*Facial Cleansing Powder 3x per week, morning or evening.

The Facial Cleansing Powder can be used as a deep cleanse exfoliator. It contains bentonite clay which will help remove excess surface oil, while the ground macadamia shell powder provides a deep pore cleansing scrub. You can expect a softer and more supple skin.

DRY OR DEHYDRATED SKIN

Morning

*Oil-Milk Cleanser

Start each morning with this gentle and effective cleanser. Because it contains no soap or alcohol, it won’t strip your skin of its natural oils but rather gently balances and normalises natural oil secretions. It also provides a conditioning effect on skin, ensuring that your skin does not feel tight and dry after cleansing.

*Skin Tonic

The Skin Tonic provides a nourishing and hydrating film over your skin, locking in moisture. Rosewater balances the skin and has a toning effect, while malachite extract provides your skin with essential nutrients.

*Everyday Cream

This rich, nourishing cream moisturises your skin without leaving it sticky or oily. It penetrates easily and provides complete nourishment from specially chosen omega-rich oils.

Evening

*Oil-Milk Cleanser

The Oil-Milk Cleanser can be used as an effective makeup remover and is gentle enough to be used over the eye area.

*Facial Hydrating Oil

The Facial Hydrating Oil provides a hydrating layer of specially chosen oils. It is a non-greasy oil that leaves skin with a healthy, hydrated glow; a restoring night-time treat for dehydrated skin.

*Everyday Cream

Finish with the Everyday Cream to lock in moisture and nourish your skin overnight.

Weekly

*Facial Cleansing Powder with Facial Hydrating Oil, 2x per week, morning or evening

Twice a week, use a Facial Cleansing Powder mixture to cleanse your skin. Mix the Powder with water to form a paste, and add two drops of the Facial Hydrating Oil.

*Facial Cleansing Powder mask, 1x per week

Once a week, make a mask using one teaspoon of Facial Cleansing Powder and one teaspoon of raw honey. The enzymatic properties of the honey have a soothing and hydrating effect on dry skin, while the bentonite powder in the Facial Cleansing Powder will increase circulation beneath the skin. The micro-granules of ground macadamia shell powder gently exfoliate skin without being too rough or causing damage.

REACTIVE SKIN

For reactive, red and inflamed, unstable skin, it is best to apply minimal product. The most basic routine will suffice until this condition improves.

*Everyday Cream

Finish with the Everyday Cream to lock in moisture and nourish your skin overnight.

As skin condition improves, gradually introduce Skin Tonic, Facial Hydrating Oil and Facial Cleansing Powder accordingly to the recommendation above.

OPEN OR CLOGGED PORES

Blocked pores are caused by sebum (oil produced by our glands in our skin) and pollutants or particles in the environment. They gel over a period and solidifies over time resulting in blackheads and clogged pores. When your pores are blocked, the absorption of skin care products will deteriorate, compounding the problem with acne & breakouts. Open pores result from unclogged pores which is an open invitation for foreign particles.

We published a separate blog post on how Skin Creamery product combination can help with clogged pores and minimize open ones.
